ABOUT Young

“Each step that we make in more intimate knowledge of nature leads us to the entrance of new labyrinths” - Alexander Van Humbolt

I strive to be a belowground ecosystem scientist who specializes interactions of tree roots, mycorrhizal fungi, microbial communities in soil. I am interested in incorporating traits of tree roots and mycorrhizal fungi into belowground biogeochemical cycle to better understand forest ecosystem.

Based on my studies on soil and mycorrhizal roots, I am hoping to improve our scaling capability of measuring traits in root system and expanding the empirical data into ecosystem modeling.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” - Marcel Proust

I am confident my non-linear academic path will lead me to contribute myself through excellent research on hidden-half of nature.

Education:

I'm a Ph.D student in Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior Graduate (EEB) Program in the Department of Biology at Indiana University - Bloomington

Phillips Lab (PI: Richard Phillips):

I'm current affiliated with Phillips Lab (phillipslab.bio.indiana.edu) that investigates THE "HIDDEN HALF" of plants and how plants and soil microbes mediate energy flow and nutrient dynamics in forests.
